Clothing handed to a bulk collection is weighed, baled and sold by the pound. It is
not looked at. A wool coat someone chose carefully in 1974 and a stained fleece leave
the room in the same sack, and by the time anyone opens it the coat is worth more as
rag than as a coat.
We do the opposite. One piece at a time, looked at by a person, mended if it needs it,
photographed exactly as it arrives and sold to someone who went looking for precisely
that. What we take but cannot sell is passed on to people who need it. None of it is
binned, and none of it sits in our storage waiting for a decision.
The best clothes have already been made. Every one that changes hands is one nobody
has to make again.
